IEI President Scott Friesen Appointed to ICC’s Code Development Committee
Scott Friesen, president of Ivey Engineering (IEI), has been appointed again to the International Code Council’s (ICC) Code Development Committee. His appointment includes serving as a volunteer on one of several subcommittees, the International Plumbing Code (IPC) committee, for the 2021-2022 cycle.
The ICC provides building safety solutions, such as accreditation, certification, codification and training, and develops model codes and standards used worldwide.
“I look forward to this opportunity to help shape the development of the plumbing code process,” Friesen says. “One of the benefits of serving on the committee is to help strengthen the plumbing regulations that ensure the health and safety of communities across the nation.”
Friesen has worked in the design, installation and commissioning of plumbing systems for over 20 years. Over the last 10 years as an expert witness, he has diagnosed and successfully resolved plumbing issues for residential, institutional and commercial projects, including high-rise buildings.
In addition to his plumbing experience as a mechanical engineer, Friesen has over 20 years of experience in the design, construction administration and forensic analysis of HVAC, fire protection and energy management systems.
As a building code consultant at IEI, he applies codes and standards to resolve disputes concerning building systems and products.
“Serving on the committee will also help me gain a better understanding of the intent of the code and become a better code professional overall,” Friesen explains.
Friesen is a licensed professional engineer in 20 states and three Canadian provinces. He joined IEI in 2010 after working for an engineering firm in Edmonton, Alberta, as a senior project mechanical engineer. His current role as president at IEI involves firm management, forensic investigation and expert witness responsibilities.
